Founder

Jeanne Barber WiltonJeanne Barber Wilton is a native of Clayton, North Carolina. She grew up on a farm — a place she still maintains — and attended North Carolina State University where she graduated with a degree in Political Science.

After college, Jeanne moved to Washington, DC to work on a presidential campaign. She also served as staff for two members of Congress and worked for various lobbying organizations. After retiring to stay home with her family, Jeanne devoted her “non-mom” time to volunteering with local groups and her children’s schools.

For more than three years, Jeanne dedicated herself to supporting her son’s and daughters’ journeys through the college admissions process. Besides reading every available resource on the subject, she took her children on more than 35 college tours and talked to admissions officers all over the country. When the effort of applying to schools began in earnest, she sat side-by-side with her children’s college counselors, learning as she went.

Through all of this, Jeanne developed a passion for helping students navigate the college admissions process. With encouragement from her husband, and the belief that every student that wants to go to college should have the benefit of knowledgeable assistance, in early 2020 she formalized her efforts and launched Acuity College Counseling, LLC.

Under the Acuity umbrella, Jeanne has worked with students in Virginia, Maryland, North and South Carolina, and Texas, helping them to develop an understanding of the college admissions process.  In November 2022, after finishing a 10-week practicum at an independent high school in Virginia, she received a certificate in College Counseling through UCLA Extension.
